Sandwich

i set out to build
something
the Dagwood, a symbol
of the perfect sandwich



so i layered layer
space
upon layer of thick bread

the salami, bologna, ham, cheese,
turkey,
and to make it healthy
i threw in a little lettuce and onion

with tomatoes and dressing
lots of dressing,
then honey mustard
and horseradish

and believe me what a perfect piece
more perfect than gems gold laden
entertains this thought,
that a sandwich is to a hungry man
much what anything is
to any man
