Midnight Zapper
i sat listening to endless buzz
explosive pops
my neighbor's blue
spark arcing
not a green toy
instead
an all-night zapper
i wondered the point
of killing endless
bugs and bugs
many of whom were allies
in an endless fearless fight
against infest
but no.
the zapper slaughtered without relent
my next door neighbor
enjoyed -
not even home -
her thought,
often ended in her bathtub
we might intermingle in intimate ways
i spent hours and gallons killing day
imagining her
no friend existed
and
here is no second chance,
she merely lured her victim
and killed
like a common murderer,
a black widow
befriending
with a kiss
leaving with a wave
